Who to Watch & Why

Danny Garcia

Philadelphia fighter.  When you here that phrase you immediately pay attention.  Philadelphia, home to The Spectrum, Joe Frazier, Bernard Hopkins, Meldrick Taylor, Benny Briscoe, Sonny Liston, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Ivan Robinson, and legendary trainer Angelo Dundee.  There is an abundance of boxing history in Philly.

Danny “Swift” Garcia (24-0) 15 KOs, is hoping his name will be remembered and included as one of those great Philly fighters who have graced the annals of boxing when all is said and done.  He has the tools and confidence to already call out the big names in the 140lb Jr. Welterweight division which include the likes of Amir Khan, Timothy Bradley, Marcos Maidana, Lucas Matthysse, but future hall of famer Eric Morales was his first encounter with greatness and became the WBC champ after a tough fight with the crafty legend.  His background solidifies his credibility as a top contender and should be taken seriously.

Danny Garcia arrives with a respected resume from the amateur ranks; winning the under 19yrs old nationals in 2005, the US nationals in 2006, combined a 107-13 amateur record, and reached the finals in the Olympic trials and was an alternate for the 2007 team.  He signed to Golden Boy Promotions before his pro debut and has been seen various times on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, Telefutura’s Solo Boxeo, and on Versus regularly.  He has been branded the best Philly prospect since Meldrick Taylor.
